USA Health’s Cindy Nelson named to Women in Tech 2026 list by Business Alabama
MOBILE, Alabama (May 20, 2026) — Cindy Nelson, manager of clinical and research applications for the USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute (MCI), has been recognized as one of Alabama’s Women in Tech 2026 by Business Alabama. The statewide honor highlights leaders who are advancing technology and innovation across industries throughout Alabama.
“This recognition is truly an honor,” said Nelson. “I’m proud to be part of a team at the Mitchell Cancer Institute that is committed to using data and technology to improve the way we care for patients. Being able to contribute to solutions that support clinicians and enhance outcomes makes this work incredibly meaningful.”
In her role at MCI, Nelson leads systemwide application initiatives that support oncology chemotherapy regimens, radiation treatment and cancer staging across both outpatient and inpatient care settings. Her work focuses on leveraging data analytics to enhance electronic medical record documentation, strengthen business intelligence capabilities and improve clinical events and patient outcomes.
Nelson develops and implements informatics solutions that include data structures, system integrations and clinical decision-support tools. These efforts enable more effective management of patients, support care teams, and facilitate the exchange of information for both clinical care and research initiatives within the oncology environment.
“Cindy’s leadership sits at the intersection of technology and patient care,” said Theresa McLaughlin, administrator at MCI. “Her ability to translate complex data into actionable insights helps drive better outcomes for patients across our cancer institute.”
Nelson earned a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from the University of South Alabama in 1991.
