United Way and WKRG News 5 Expand Hurricane Isaias Recovery Efforts Across the Region
United Way of Southwest Alabama and WKRG News 5 are working together to expand the Hurricane Isaias Community Crisis Fund to 19 counties across Alabama and Northwest Florida, connecting individuals, businesses, and organizations with opportunities to support communities recovering from the storm.
Led by WKRG News 5, the regional media collaboration extends the fund’s reach across multiple television markets. Donors can select the county they wish to support, while local television stations throughout the region are encouraged to share information about the fund and help raise awareness of ongoing recovery needs.
Expanding Support Across Alabama and Northwest Florida
The Community Crisis Fund now includes 19 counties across five television markets. The following counties are eligible for support, organized by station and coverage area:
WKRG News 5 | Mobile and Pensacola
- Alabama: Baldwin, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, and Monroe Counties
- Florida: Escambia, Okaloosa, and Santa Rosa Counties
WDHN | Dothan
- Alabama: Coffee, Covington, Geneva, and Houston Counties
WRBL | Columbus, Auburn, and Eufaula
- Alabama: Barbour County
WIAT | Birmingham
- Alabama: Jefferson County
WMBB | Panama City
- Florida: Bay, Holmes, Walton, and Washington Counties
United Way of Southwest Alabama will coordinate donations through the Community Crisis Fund and distribute contributions designated for eligible counties within its service area directly to local nonprofit agencies and community organizations responding to Hurricane Isaias. Contributions designated for counties outside its service area will go to the United Way serving that county or region for local distribution. This approach allows each United Way to direct resources based on its knowledge of the community’s specific recovery needs.
