Mobile County Commission Announces Leadership Transition
MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — Effective Monday, March 23, 2026, District 2 Commissioner Connie Hudson will assume the role of President of the Mobile County Commission for a 16-month term, continuing the Commission’s established leadership rotation.
Each County Commissioner represents approximately 138,000 Mobile County residents. The position of Commission President rotates among the three elected Commissioners, with each serving one 16-month term as president during the four-year quadrennial.
Commissioner Merceria Ludgood, who has represented District 1 since 2007, has completed her 16-month term as President, which began Nov. 13, 2024.
Hudson, who has represented Commission District 2 since 2010, will chair Commission meetings, sign official documents, serve on various boards, and act as Mobile County’s chief elected official during a declared emergency or disaster.
The Commission’s leadership rotation reflects the collaborative approach of Commissioners Merceria Ludgood, Connie Hudson and Randall Dueitt, who work together to set priorities and advance initiatives that benefit residents countywide.
District 3 Commissioner Randall Dueitt will serve as Vice President during Hudson’s term. In that role, he may chair meetings and act on behalf of the President in her absence.
Hudson will serve as Commission President through July 11, 2027, as established when the Commissioners began the 2024-2028 quadrennial.
