From MoGo to Second Line: Chamber Pilot Becomes Part of Mobile’s Transit Network
MOBILE, Ala. — A transportation pilot launched by the Mobile Chamber to help connect residents with jobs and workforce training is entering its next chapter as part of the City of Mobile’s redesigned public transit system.
MoGo Rideshare is becoming Second Line Microtransit, joining fixed-route buses, trolleys and paratransit services under the City’s new Second Line Transit network.
The transition marks a significant milestone for a program that began in 2024 as an experiment in addressing one of the barriers facing Mobile’s workforce: transportation.
The Mobile Area Chamber Foundation launched MoGo in partnership with Via as an on-demand, app-based microtransit pilot designed to make it easier for residents to reach employment, career training and other workforce opportunities. The initial service focused on a 17-square-mile area and included connections to major employers and training locations.
The pilot quickly demonstrated the demand for flexible transportation options in Mobile. Through 2025, MoGo recorded nearly 40,000 completed rides, serving more than 1,200 active riders while maintaining a 95.8% five-star satisfaction rating.
The strong ridership helped demonstrate how on-demand microtransit could address transportation barriers and complement Mobile’s existing public transit network.
As usage grew, the pilot evolved, expanding its service area, adding transfer points connecting riders with existing bus service and introducing additional destinations that allowed commuters to combine work trips with everyday errands.
Now, the concept is becoming part of a much larger transportation network.
The City of Mobile is incorporating microtransit into Second Line Transit, its redesigned public transportation system operated in partnership with Via. The new network is designed to better connect fixed-route bus service, on-demand transportation and mobility services while expanding transit access throughout the city.
Under the new system, the service riders have known as MoGo will continue as Second Line Microtransit.
Riders will use the new Second Line Transit app to request rides, view estimated arrival times and track vehicles in real time. Microtransit will operate Monday through Thursday from 4:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. There will be no Sunday service.
Rides will remain $1.25, with reduced fares of 60 cents available for eligible riders. Customers who do not use the app can continue booking rides by calling 251-312-4372.
The new system will also allow riders to transfer between Second Line bus and microtransit services at no additional charge. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles will remain available, and eligible riders participating in the Mobility Assistance Program will be able to prebook, manage and track curb-to-curb paratransit trips through the app.
Some vehicles may continue carrying The Wave branding while the fleet transitions to the new Second Line identity.
For the Mobile Chamber, the transition represents the evolution of an initiative originally created to address a workforce need into a transportation option with a much broader community reach.
Second Line Transit is scheduled to officially launch Sept. 28.
