Join United Way of Southwest Alabama and Verizon on Tuesday, October 20, to hear from local experts who help our communities prepare for emergencies, respond to disasters, and navigate recovery. With Hurricane Isaias still fresh in our communities, this is a timely opportunity to ask questions, learn about available resources, and connect with organizations that can help.

Meet Our Featured Panelists

Lauretta Roe | Alabama Department of Insurance

A Consumer Services Specialist with more than 20 years of experience, Lauretta helps Alabama residents understand insurance coverage, navigate claims, and resolve disputes with insurance companies.

Evey Owen | Better Business Bureau of Central & South Alabama

Vice President for South Alabama, Evey will share information about recognizing disaster recovery scams, avoiding fraudulent contractors, and protecting consumers during recovery.

Susie A. James | Alabama Power

Public Affairs Manager for Alabama Power’s Mobile Division, Susie will discuss disaster readiness and Alabama Power’s recent response and recovery efforts following Hurricane Isaias.

Brian Phelan | American Red Cross South Alabama Chapter

Community Disaster Program Manager, Brian will share practical steps families can take before emergencies and information about disaster response and recovery resources.

Michael B. Dillaber | Mobile County Emergency Management Agency

Community Recovery and Logistics Officer, Michael will discuss emergency planning, household preparedness, and local disaster recovery resources.

• Program: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
• Admission and lunch are FREE!

The first 25 attendees will receive weather radios. Disaster preparedness kits will be available while supplies last, and attendees who complete the event surveys will have opportunities to win prizes, including a generator.

Community exhibitors will also be available to share additional information and resources.
