This Week in MCPSS: October 1, 2026
Here’s what’s happening in Mobile County Public Schools this week …
SPECIAL BIKES FOR SPECIAL STUDENTS: Mobile County Public Schools’ Special Services Adapted Physical Education Department received a generous donation from the Krewe of Kindness, providing eight adapted PE bikes and equipment valued at more than $12,000. The bikes have been placed at schools across the county based on the individual needs of students. They will rotate to different schools throughout the school year, allowing even more students to benefit from this specialized equipment. The schools initially receiving a bike are Pearl Haskew Elementary, Dawes Intermediate, Theodore High School, Allentown Elementary and Augusta Evans Special School. MCPSS is grateful to the Krewe of Kindness for its commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for students of all abilities to participate, grow and thrive. (Photo attached.) A video about the donation is available here on the mcpssTV YouTube channel.
NEW JROTC LEADERS: Five cadets from four high schools were promoted and selected to lead their fellow cadets throughout the county this year as the MCPSS JROTC Brigade Command. They are:
- Cadet Brigade Commander – C/LTC Alex Arnold, Murphy
- Cadet Command Sergeant Major – C/CSM Chrislin Seals, Murphy
- Cadet Deputy Brigade Commander – C/LTC Hannah Godwin, Theodore
- Cadet Brigade Operations Officer – C/LTC Caylee Peyregne, Citronelle
- Cadet Brigade Logistics Officer – C/LTC Ashton Johnson, Baker
These cadets will be tasked with organizing JROTC activities and competitions throughout the school year. As Cadet Brigade Commander, Arnold said she also plans to establish a mentorship program to make for a smoother transition for new cadets. Congratulations to all these JRTOC leaders! MOCK INTERVIEWS: The MCPSS Career Technical Education Division is inviting business and community leaders to sign up for interview skill sessions with our high school seniors. “Mock interviews give MCPSS students a chance to practice telling their story, to build confidence, and to hear directly from the people who hire in our community,” said Claire Minto, MCPSS Signature Academies Supervisor and Work-Based Learning Coordinator. Representatives from local business and industry can sign up to participate here. During the interviews, students are encouraged to ask questions and to discuss ideas to enhance their resumes. The mock interviews are one of the numerous programs that the district offers to help our students graduate college and career ready. (Photo from Theodore High School mock interviews attached.)
SOUTH SUPER REGIONAL CHEERLEADING COMPETITION: More than 120 cheer squads from south Alabama middle and high schools are competing in the AHSAA South Super Regional Cheer Competition today in downtown Mobile. They are competing for a spot at the State Cheer Finals. Each squad is competing in a Traditional Routine performance to music and in Game Day, which is a combination of band chant, a situational sideline cue from the announcer, the crowd leading section, and ending with the team fight song. The competition is running all day at the Mobile Convention Center as follows: SouthSchedule.pdf If you would like video of local teams competing, mcpssTV can provide it to you.
