Mobile, Ala. — The National Maritime Museum of the Gulf will host a weekend of live music, art and coast-inspired festivities to celebrate the opening of the long-awaited “Jimmy Buffett: Son of a Son of a Sailor Experience” on Saturday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 13.

The celebration will kick off at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the official opening of the permanent 6,000-square-foot immersive exhibition chronicling Jimmy Buffett’s life, from his family’s roots in Pascagoula and Mobile to the adventures that inspired songs loved by millions of Parrot Heads around the world.

In addition to the more than 130 unique artifacts on display, an immersive concert experience and much more, visitors to the grand opening celebration will be treated to live performances from Radio Margaritaville personality and musician Krystal King from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Greg Mihaly from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Author Donna Rocco will also be on-site signing copies of her Jimmy Buffett Little Golden Book, allowing fans to take home a special piece of Buffett-inspired memorabilia.

The celebration will continue Sunday, Sept. 13 with live music from the Salt Shakers Band from noon to 3 p.m. The grand opening celebration will also coincide with the 2026 Mobtown Mural Festival, aimed at bringing artists and the creative spirit of the Gulf Coast together throughout the weekend. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a variety of food trucks through the weekend.

“It’s a point of pride for many Mobilians to trace Jimmy Buffett’s roots to the Port City, so it’s fitting that the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf would host this one-of-a-kind exhibit dedicated to his legacy,” Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said. “I know the “Jimmy Buffett: Son of a Son of a Sailor Experience” will be a must-see attraction for visitors and locals alike.”
