Mobile Museum of Art to Host Free Family Day for GATEWAY

Mobile, Ala. – On Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 11 am to 3 pm, Mobile Museum of Art will host a free family day for the sensational new special exhibition, GATEWAY: From Graffiti to Gallery.

The GATEWAY Family Day is proudly sponsored by exhibition presenting sponsor Lexus of Mobile with support from The Caring Foundation of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and Mobile County.

“Our team is so excited to welcome our community to this special celebration of our new blockbuster exhibition,” said Executive Director Jon Carfagno. “We are grateful to our presenting sponsors who have supported our ability to design a day that will activate the creative lessons in the galleries and be fun for all ages.”

GATEWAY traces the origin and evolution of a movement that transformed global visual culture. The highly praised exhibition examines the work of five legendary creators: Banksy, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, KAWS, and Kenny Scharf. Featuring 28 significant works, MMoA is set to serve as the exclusive host venue for this year-long blockbuster event.

“This Family Day is all about getting creative and having fun together exploring art both outdoors and in the gallery,” said Curator of Art Education Kaitlyn Amanor. “From collaborative art making and poetry pop‑ups to hands‑on activities, food trucks, and quiet spaces to recharge, there’s literally something for everyone to enjoy. It’s a day to explore, play, and get creative together.”

GATEWAY Family Day activities and programming include:

• Live Mural Demonstrations: Muralists will create works live on-site, offering attendees direct interaction and insight into their creative process.
• Community Graffiti Installation: A collaborative public art station allowing visitors of all ages to contribute to a shared mural project.
• Printmaking Workshops: Hands-on art-making sessions where participants can produce custom prints inspired by the work of Keith Haring.
• Guided Exhibition Tours: Docent-led family tours offering age-appropriate commentary on the GATEWAY exhibition.
• Spoken Word & Poetry: Live performances by regional writers from PowerLines Poetry.
• Local Vendors & Refreshments: On-site food trucks alongside complimentary popsicles from Frios Gourmet Pops for all Family Day participants, courtesy of Lexus of Mobile (available while supplies last).
