Mobile County Public Schools hosts career fair to hire hundreds of teachers, support staff

MOBILE, Ala. — Mobile County Public Schools hosted its fourth annual career fair Wednesday, April 30, at the Mobile Convention Center and it was a major success.

The school system hired 132 employees on the spot and collected résumés and made contact with hundreds of additional potential hires.

The event was open to anyone interested in joining #TeamMCPSS as a teacher, teacher’s aide, cafeteria worker, bus driver, custodian, trades or maintenance worker, or in another school support role. Attendees were encouraged to bring multiple copies of their résumé and be prepared to find the right job among Mobile County’s 90 schools.

The career fair ran from noon to 5 p.m., with principals and department directors available to interview candidates and begin the hiring process immediately. The district also offered free background checks, drug screenings and parking at the Convention Center.

Mobile County Public Schools is the state’s largest school system and the largest employer in the county.

First-year teachers in MCPSS earn salaries that are 3 to 5 percent higher than state and national averages. Teachers also receive credit on the salary schedule for prior experience at accredited private or other public schools.

Employees enjoy excellent benefits, including health insurance, paid time off, holidays and retirement through the Retirement Systems of Alabama. MCPSS teachers continue to excel in the classroom, earning statewide and national recognition for innovation.

The school system also offered signing bonuses for new hires:

  • $1,500 for support personnel

  • $3,000 for teachers

  • $4,000 for special education teachers

  • $5,000 for teachers placed at select schools

All bonuses require a two-year commitment.
