Mobile, Ala. — Mobile County is inviting the community to celebrate Earth Day with a series of engaging and educational events designed to promote environmental awareness, local sustainability efforts, and appreciation for the natural world.

The celebration will take kick-off at Mobile Government Plaza with Mobile County’s Green Bag Lunch Series, offering a relaxed midday opportunity for residents and downtown workers to connect, learn, and participate.

Wednesday, April 22, Noon

Join WKRG Chief Meteorologist Ed Bloodsworth as he brings the forecast beyond just sunshine and storms, connecting what we see in the atmosphere to the bigger environmental picture right here in our community.

Attendees can bring their own lunch or visit nearby downtown eateries.

Thursday, April 23, Noon

Mobile Government Plaza, Atrium

Attendees can take part in Earth Day Trivia at 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., where teams of two to five players will test their knowledge of sustainability and environmental topics. Prizes will be awarded, adding a fun and competitive element to the day’s activities. The event will also feature live music by Keith “The Mailman” Burns, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere throughout the lunch hour. In addition, guests can enjoy a variety of food options by bringing their own lunch, visiting nearby downtown eateries, or stopping by food trucks located near the East Entrance of Government Plaza, including Batman Express, La Taqueria, and Sno-Fox.

Friday, April 24, Noon

As part of the day’s educational programming, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of pollinators during a special talk on honeybees. The presentation will highlight the critical role honeybees play in supporting agriculture and ecosystems, as well as the health benefits of honey and other bee-derived products such as propolis and beeswax.

Attendees can bring their own lunch or visit nearby downtown eateries.

Then, on Saturday, April 25, Operation Clean Sweep, will be held from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at 12740 Hwy 43 N, Axis. It is the perfect time for Mobile County residents to clean out and be ready to dispose of unwanted household appliances, computers, printers, household items, bagged leaves, yard debris and more for FREE during Operation Clean Sweep.
