MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. — The Mobile County Commission held its Annual Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 25, at Chickasabogue Park. The free, family-friendly event brought the community together in Mobile County’s largest park to highlight environmental stewardship, conservation, and civic pride.

Supported by Keep Mobile Beautiful, the Gulf Coast Resource Conservation & Development Council, and other partners, the event featured live music, nature walks, eco-friendly exhibits by nonprofit organizations, WKRG’s Weather Beast, and an electric-vehicle showcase, including participation from multiple EV owners through Drive Electric Alabama. Families also enjoyed a wide range of activities, including face painting, a caricature artist, a balloon artist, a rock-climbing wall, and more.

Commissioner Connie Hudson and Keep Mobile Beautiful’s Kris Enzor presented Love Your Community grants to six local teams who each earned $1,500 grants by time-banking volunteer hours spent in litter reduction and neighborhood beautification efforts:

• Loving Litter Pick Up (Bayou La Batre) – Funding a picnic table or bench for Mariner Park
• Friends of Fowl River (Fowl River Area Civic Association) – Completing pavers and electrical installation for a public-use pavilion
• Flo Claire 2 – Median beautification on McDonald Avenue in Midtown Mobile
• Trash Busters (College Wood Civic Club, Eight Mile) – Enhancements at two neighborhood entrances
• Team Up 2 Clean Up (Trinity Gardens) – Supporting a large community cleanup event in partnership with Bay Area Women Coalition
• Revitalize DIP – Continuing support for a “Love Your Community/Keep DIP Clean” billboard on Dauphin Island Parkway, just south of I-10

“Events like the County’s Annual Earth Day Celebration remind us that caring for our environment is a shared responsibility,” said Hudson. “We are fortunate to have incredible natural resources in Mobile County, and it is up to all of us to protect them. Large scale work, such as the County’s environmental and conservation efforts, to simple actions like reducing litter in neighborhoods, make a real difference. Love Your Community, is a program that empowers residents to lead the way and help keep our county clean, beautiful, and thriving,” she added.

Funded by the Mobile County Commission and administered in partnership with Keep Mobile Beautiful, the Love Your Community program is a countywide litter reduction initiative supported in part by the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act. The program rewards volunteer efforts that directly improve neighborhoods and public spaces across Mobile County.
