Mobile Arts Council Receives Three Grants from Alabama State Council of the Arts
At its September quarterly meeting in Montgomery, Ala., the Alabama State Council on the Arts awarded $3,769,280 in grants to 176 organizations. The Mobile Arts Council (MAC) was awarded $82,800 for two project grants to support staff salaries and an additional grant for educational initiatives through Amp Up Arts.
“Public funding is essential in fostering a thriving arts ecosystem, and we are proud to support organizations that enrich the lives of Alabamians through creativity,” said Elliot Knight, executive director of the Council on the Arts. “We encourage members of the public to explore upcoming events and artistic programs in their local communities and experience how these investments contribute to the quality of life in our state.”
“We truly appreciate the Alabama State Council on the Arts for their steadfast support and belief in our mission. Their continued partnership makes it possible for us to bring creativity, education, and connection to every corner of the Mobile community,” said MAC’s Executive Director, Angela Montgomery. Kat Kirk Stoves, Amp Up Arts Site Director for Mobile’s Education Collaborative added, “we are so grateful to the Alabama State Council on the Arts for their support and belief in the importance of arts education in the development of every student in Alabama.”
The Mobile Arts Council (MAC) is the city’s only organization dedicated exclusively to promoting, educating, and advocating for artists and arts organizations across all creative disciplines. Through diverse programming, professional development opportunities, and community partnerships, MAC works to strengthen and celebrate Mobile’s vibrant arts ecosystem.
With a dedicated staff of four, MAC leads a variety of impactful initiatives, including Amp Up Arts, a youth arts education program; public art and creative placemaking projects that enhance the community landscape; LoDa ArtWalk, a free monthly event that transforms downtown Mobile into a lively showcase of local talent; and a monthly exhibition series at their community gallery at Room 1927.
