Mobile Arts Council Announces January 2026 Exhibitions
Mobile, AL — January 2026 The Mobile Arts Council (MAC) is proud to open the new year with three powerful exhibitions showcasing regional artists whose work explores transformation, identity, and the spaces between inner and outer worlds. Opening simultaneously in January 2026, these exhibitions—Liminal Spaces by Savannah Asmus, Sacred Forms by Tiersha Laird, and Groundwork by Brittany Norman invite viewers into atmospheric, ethereal, and deeply human visual experiences.
Liminal Spaces by Daphne-based artist Savannah Asmus examines moments of transition, “the pause before becoming.” These oil paintings exist within thresholds rather than destinations, shaped by the tension between holding on and letting go. Moving between memory and myth, body and spirit, stillness and change, Asmus’ work embraces the beauty of uncertainty.
These oil paintings blend of realism and dreamlike softness, they feature clouds, water, fragmented figures, and devotional gestures. Atmosphere takes precedence over narrative, allowing forms to emerge and dissolve. Referencing classical and religious visual language, Asmus presents the divine as something quiet, porous, and deeply human—felt rather than defined.
The exhibition encourages viewers to slow down and dwell within in-between spaces, discovering the contemplative beauty of transition.
Created during an artist residency in Ireland, Sacred Forms by Tiersha Laird explores the quiet intersections of love, memory, and nature. The series includes both oil paintings and sculptural works that capture unguarded moments of intimacy against landscapes reminiscent of New Orleans, the artist’s home.
Through delicate palettes and airy metal forms, Laird celebrates softness and vulnerability while gently challenging shifting societal ideals. Figures and sculptural elements evoke presence and absence, like echoes of fleeting connection. Sacred Forms creates a meditative space for reflection, and emotional honesty.
Local contemporary artist Brittany Norman presents Groundwork, a fresh collection of acrylic paintings blending the fluidity of impressionism with the bold energy of abstract expression. Their work captures emotional landscapes and fleeting moments through vibrant color palettes, textured brushwork, and dynamic movement.
Inspired by nature, urban environments, and the complexities of human experience, Norman’s paintings invite viewers to engage through personal interpretation and emotional connection. Light, color, and motion interact to create pieces that feel both immediate and contemplative, celebrating the beauty found in imperfection and the shifting rhythms of daily life.
Join us for the opening reception of these breathtaking exhibitions January 9, 2026 from 6pm-9pm at the Mobile Arts Council Gallery @ Room 1927.
