Columbia Southern University Honors Graduate for Occupational Safety & Health 

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – Columbia Southern University’s College of Safety and Emergency Services faculty recently awarded its annual Outstanding Safety Professional of the Year Award to Jennifer Keach. Keach, a resident of Katy, Texas, works for SLB in Houston as a health, safety and environmental manager.

Keach began working in the oil and gas industry in early 2000 as a truck driver, then moved up to a field supervisor in operations. In 2010, she decided to pursue a career in occupational safety and health (OSH) after being involved in a preventable incident at her workplace. She was also inspired by her sister to enter the industry.

“One of the key motivations was witnessing the significant impact a safety professional can have both at work and at home,” said explained. “Additionally, I was inspired by my sister, who has been my role model in the OSH industry, demonstrating that one person can indeed make a difference.”

Keach is involved in her community through volunteering at local beach clean-ups. She also organized a book swap in April.

“I am passionate about volunteering in my community, as it allows me to give back and collaborate with like-minded individuals. Through volunteering, I can build meaningful connections and expand my network.”

Keach is a Certified Safety Professional® and holds a Graduate Safety Professional® designation from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.  She also holds a National Construction Safety Officer® designation. She has won multiple awards, including being honored as a Eureka Leader with SLB. She holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health from CSU.

The Outstanding Safety Professional Award was established by CSU to recognize National Safety Month, observed annually in June, and to celebrate its occupational safety and health students and graduates for their commitments to safety, professionalism and their accomplishments.
