The decision to move to Mobile was the highlight of the past year for Mike Jordan, the vice president of the Mobile Division of the Alabama Power Company.

Alabama Power, a utility company, is the second largest subsidiary of Southern Company. Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, the company provides electricity service to customers in the southern two-thirds of Alabama.

“Hands-down, moving to Mobile has been the highlight for me and my wife Alissa. All the individual moments, however, have made the transition seamless and enjoyable,” said Jordan. “Meeting new people, involvement in community events and the support of my work family.”

A native of Troy, Alabama, and father of three daughters (one starting her career, one in college and one starting high school) Jordan says he wishes he had more time to spend with them individually. As a true girl dad, he always stays prepared. When leaving home, “I always take far more than I ever need, regardless of whether for work or vacation.”

When asked about life choices that have gotten him to where he is today, Jordan said, “Throughout my career, I’ve chosen to be true to my own character and value set. I’ve also been blessed with several profession choice which have allowed me the opportunity to now become part of the Mobile community”.

Jordan’s desire to work hard, be patient and listen are qualities he feels he inherited from his parents and has incorporated into the three rules he tries to live by:

• Be intentional in listening to others
• Have patience
• Be kind

The best piece of advice he was ever given: “Be respectful of the time others have given you; It’s too valuable to waste.”

Looking back at major national/international events that had the most impact on his life, Jordan explained how the COVID years were most impactful. “Like so many others, I had friends and family affected. Professionally, that time also forced a professional reset. I had never really worked away from an in-person environment, and that time taught me to be more flexible, creative and empathetic.”

Looking towards the future, Jordan says, “I’m excited for the opportunities to be part of the Mobile community. To become a trusted community partner takes time, and I’m excited for the opportunity to become that resource.

But for right now, he wishes people would focus and share more conversations about “the good,” he said, “There’s so much good happening within our community, and I wish we would dwell more on the many, many positives all around us.”
