First job: Downtown YMCA (when it was still on Government St.).

Professional accomplishments: Chamber Board, UWSWA Board, UWSWA Volunteer of the Year, runner up for Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year, America‘s Junior Miss Board (now Distinguished Young Women).

Hidden talent: I can sleep anywhere.

What word would you use to describe yourself? Laid back and humorous …you can’t take life too seriously.

Secret to success: Enjoy your work and work hard…be kind and generous to others.

Favorite food/restaurant: Seafood. Specifically Felix’s Fish Camp.

What is one of the most useful things you own? Every tool that Ryobi makes.

What is your favorite season of the year and why? Fall. Football season and cooler weather.

Aside from necessities, what one thing you could not go a day without? Diet Dr. Pepper.

What is your passion? Staying busy.

What could you talk about all day long? (other than your kids and family): The question is “other than kids and family”, but I really could talk about our family a lot. I’m so proud of our sons. The eldest is an Aeronautical Engineer currently working on rockets built with solid fuel engines. He works with the X-Bow Systems in Huntsville. Our youngest son has earned his PhD in Nursing. His research is in the prevention and treatment of traumatic brain injuries in children. He teaches at the UAB School of Nursing and works part time in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham. Our daughter in-law runs several home based businesses and is successful at each one. Our son in-law is a Nurse Anesthetist also at Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham. Our granddaughter is also our pride and joy. Being a grandparent is the best! I’m very proud of all of them and could talk with and about them for hours.

Otherwise: Talking to younger people about the type of work and opportunities that I’m involved with.

Your first car was: 1966 Malibu. 

The last book you read: The Blues Brothers : an epic friendship, the rise of improv, and the making of an American film classic

What were you doing in your 20s? Married my high school sweetheart, Laurie, had our two sons. Started my first business (Video Production Services) and taught as an adjunct professor at SHC.

Outside of work, what do you do to relax? Read, walk, ride bikes with Laurie.

What talent would you most like to have? Play guitar or piano

What do you consider your greatest achievement? (other than family) Other than our family, Fusion Point….we started the company in 1999 and it’s still going strong.

What quality you most like in people? Kindness, truthfulness, humor and motivation.

Who is your favorite hero of fiction? Raylen Givens from Justified. 

Best Place to get away from it all: The beach.

Best thing about your job: Getting to know people. Executing creative ways to make their business stand out and inform.

Modern Day Hero: Anthony Fauci – he accomplished so much even before heading up the Covid response.

Top Bucket List Trip: Train trip from Canada to Alaska.
