The University of South Alabama has established the Mayor Sandy Stimpson Leadership Scholarship in Business and Engineering in honor of former Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson, who served as the city’s 108th mayor from 2013 until 2025.

A total of $243,784 was raised by the Mobile Chamber Foundation and friends of the Stimpsons to support the initiative. Of that amount, $238,384 is designated for the creation of the scholarship endowment, while $5,400 will provide two immediate $2,700 awards for junior students in business and engineering.

Dave Nelson is a partner and business development manager with Cyclone 365 and has served as a Mobile Chamber Ambassador for nearly two years. Ambassadors play an active role in supporting Chamber events, connecting with members and helping businesses stay engaged within the community.

The Mobile Chamber has named Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup as Small Business of the Month. Locally-owned and operated by the Smith family since 1963, Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup has grown from a one-truck operation into a full-service plumbing, septic, industrial and water restoration company serving residential, commercial and industrial customers across the region.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Mobile Chamber, recently convened a roundtable discussion with Rep. Shomari Figures (AL-02) and local business leaders to discuss the importance of a new federal surface transportation bill to support Alabama’s economy and communities.

The future of live entertainment in Mobile rose to new heights today as city leaders and project partners gathered to celebrate a major milestone in the construction of Mobile Arena. A March 3 “topping out” ceremony marked the placement of the final steel beam and the completion of the 10,000-seat arena’s structural framework. Scheduled to open in early 2027, Mobile Arena will be a state-of-the-art venue providing a new home for live sports, major concerts and touring events on the Gulf Coast. The $300 million facility will serve as the foundation for continued investment and a new entertainment district on the 22-acre site of the former Mobile Civic Center.
