Bishop State Earns Accreditation Reaffirmation from SACSCOC
MOBILE, Ala. – Bishop State Community College is proud to announce that it has earned its accreditation reaffirmation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Bishop State now has its reaffirmation through 2035. This is a major milestone that underscores the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, operational integrity, and continuous improvement.
The reaffirmation, granted by the SACSCOC Board of Trustees on June 12, 2025, followed an extensive review process in October 2024 conducted by a committee of peers throughout the SACSCOC region. This thorough evaluation examined multiple facets of the institution, including faculty qualifications, financial operations, academic quality, strategic planning, institutional policies and procedures, and the Quality Enhancement Plan.
Bishop State’s review resulted in zero recommendations, a commendable outcome that speaks volumes about the college’s strength and preparation.
“I’m incredibly proud of the work our Bishop State family put into this reaffirmation process,” said Bishop State President Olivier Charles. “This achievement reflects the focus, unity, and unwavering dedication of our faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders. We’ve always believed in the vital role Bishop State plays in transforming lives and strengthening our region. It’s powerful when a respected governing body like SACSCOC affirms what we already know. It’s not just a win for the Bishop State. It’s a win for the entire community we serve.”
SACSCOC accreditation ensures that institutions meet rigorous standards in higher education. For Bishop State, this reaffirmation affirms not only institutional quality but also the college’s readiness for continued programmatic growth and innovation.
The review process was a collaborative effort involving the entire Bishop State community, including the College’s governing board, faculty, staff, students (including dual enrollment students), and the Bishop State Foundation. Together, these stakeholders presented a compelling case to the SACSCOC team, showcasing a unified commitment to the college’s success.
“This accomplishment reflects the unwavering dedication of our faculty, staff, students, and community partners,” said Dr. Khalilah Burton, Vice President of Instructional Services. “It’s proof that when we work together with purpose, excellence follows.”
The reaffirmation is yet another testament to Bishop State’s upward trajectory and its focused efforts to provide quality education and training and serve as a pillar of progress in the region.
