Mobile, Ala. – Building a “STEM-ready Alabama” to meet the demand for a growing STEM workforce in our state is a top priority. To help meet this demand, the AlabamaSchool of Mathematics and Science has relaunched its STEM Leadership Academy Summer Camp for 6th through 9th graders! After taking a pause due to campus upgrades and expansion, the school will once again offer the traditional overnight camp experience this year.

Campers have much to be excited about! As one of the most comprehensive STEM-based summer camps in the state, campers will engage in unique STEM courses: 3D Printing • ACT Prep • Mini-Medical School • Underwater Robotics • Engineering• Labs of Doom • Geology of Minecraft • Industrial Design • Technology and Entrepreneurship • Rocketry • Robotics • and many more!

“If you are curious about attending high school at ASMS one day, or if you are curious about the many unique STEM classes that ASMS offers, we have a spot for you at camp! The STEM Leadership Academy gives you an immersive experience for a full week. As you live on campus, you will make a whole group of friends from across Alabama, and everyone has fun learning together,” says Dr. Rebecca Domangue who is a biology faculty member at ASMS and also teaches during summer camp.

In addition to the wide array of STEM-based courses, campers will also take part in a daily leadership class period, learning important leadership traits such as decision making, goal setting, working with others, effective communication, and more! These skills will lay the foundation for them to become future STEM leaders.

The STEM Leadership Academy is priced to offer a phenomenal summer STEM experience to as many Alabama families as possible. The registration fee is all-inclusivecovering meals, lodging, field trips, etc.

ASMS administrators view the STEM Leadership Academy as a profound way to impactAlabama’s K-12 STEM workforce pipeline. “Employment in STEM is on the rise, but recent research shows that the gaps for underrepresented populations are not going away soon. ASMS has an access mission to serve students from across Alabama from any background and to equip them for a bright future of leadership in STEM. The STEM Leadership Academy is our commitment to closing the gap and preparing students for impactful STEM careers even from a young age,” says ASMS Director of Admissions and Outreach, Mr. Ken Robinson.
