Small Business of the Month: Content Fresh
When Deborah Salisbury, APR, founded Content Fresh in 2009, it was in response to a challenge she saw all around her. Businesses were doing great work but struggling to tell their stories online.
After being laid off from the construction industry, Salisbury leaned into her strengths as a writer and lifelong technology enthusiast to fill that gap. What started as a one-woman effort to update outdated websites has since grown into a seven-person team serving more than 80 brands across the Gulf Coast.
Today, Content Fresh helps businesses, nonprofits and government agencies simplify digital communication, prevent misinformation and build stronger relationships with their audiences.
“At its core, communication only works when it is clear, authentic and true,” Salisbury said. “That principle guides everything we do.”
Over the years, the company has evolved alongside the changing digital landscape. What began with websites has expanded into a full-service offering that includes social media management and advertising, search engine optimization and technology solutions designed to help organizations operate more efficiently.
Content Fresh now manages real-time social media communication seven days a week for organizations where accuracy and responsiveness are critical. The team also maintains more than 30 active websites and provides tools such as customer relationship management systems, workflow automation and AI integrations to help clients modernize how they communicate.
Rather than following a fixed model, Salisbury said the company has grown by responding to real-world challenges, including misinformation, fragmented systems and limited staff capacity.
That thoughtful growth has been supported by continued learning. Participation in programs like Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses and the Mobile Chamber’s Blueprint for Capital helped strengthen financial management and guide strategic scaling decisions.
Equally important to Content Fresh’s success is its approach to customer service. The team prioritizes responsiveness and clarity because clients rely on the company to manage public-facing communication and digital platforms.
Clients have direct access to the team, and issues are treated as time-sensitive rather than transactional. That approach has led to long-term relationships, strong referrals and a 5.0-star rating on Google, with reviews consistently highlighting reliability and partnership.
Community involvement is also a key part of the company’s mission. Content Fresh regularly provides discounted and pro bono services to nonprofit and civic organizations, helping expand access to professional communication and technology resources.
Organizations supported include Heart for Athletes, the Exceptional Foundation, Ransom Solutions and Lower Alabama AI. The company is also active in the Public Relations Council of Alabama, participates in Chamber programs and events, and sponsors groups such as the Fairhope Sunset Rotary Club and Baldwin County Virtual School.
In addition, the team donates time to lead educational seminars on topics like social media strategy, search engine optimization and crisis communication.
For Salisbury, that community focus is a natural extension of the company’s work.
“We are here to help people communicate better,” she said. “When organizations can do that effectively, it strengthens the entire community.”
From its beginnings as a solo operation to a growing regional partner, Content Fresh continues to focus on helping organizations stay clear, consistent and in control of their message in an increasingly complex digital world.
