MOBILE, Ala. – The city of Mobile is gearing up for an electrifying celebration of culture, community, and competition as the 2024 Gulf Coast Challenge Powered by the Mobile Sports Authority kicks off on Wednesday, October 2nd and runs through Saturday, October 5th. This highly anticipated event promises to be the ultimate HBCU experience, showcasing the best of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and featuring an exciting football showdown between Alabama A&M University Bulldogs and Jackson State University Tigers.

“Along with our City and County of Mobile partners, the Mobile Sports Authority is once again looking forward to another exciting week and weekend of HBCU football coming to Mobile this fall.” said Danny Corte, Executive Director of the MSA. “This will be 7th Gulf Coast Challenge and the 9th HBCU football game the MSA has hosted since returning HBCU football to our area in 2016. The matchup of Alabama A&M and Jackson State has resulted in great games in the past, and I expect this year to be no different. We encourage all alumni, fans, and followers of HBCU football to come on down to Mobile for a fun-filled week and weekend of events,” Corte says.

The highlight of the Gulf Coast Challenge will be the football game between two powerhouse teams set to take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 4pm at Ladd-Pebbles Stadium. Football enthusiasts and supporters of HBCU sports alike can expect a display of skill, passion, and school spirit as AAMU and JSU go head-to-head in a battle for victory.

The Gulf Coast Challenge offers a jam-packed schedule of events and activities from nightly concerts at Mardi Gras Park featuring renowned artists, to a team luncheon bringing together players, coaches, and city dignitaries. Additionally, the Gulf Coast Challenge will host a presidential luncheon, providing a platform for community leaders, educators, and influencers to come together and discuss the importance of HBCUs in shaping the future.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Gulf Coast Challenge back to the city of Mobile for another unforgettable weekend to celebrate the rich legacy and tradition of HBCUs,” said CEO LaSheryl Dotch. “This event is not just about football; it’s about bringing people together, fostering connections, and empowering the next generation of leaders.
