Two New Businesses Moving to South Alabama Logistics Park

Last Updated: July 30, 2024By

Local officials today announced that two new global businesses are locating warehousing and distribution facilities in Mobile’s South Alabama Logistics Park (SALP), the largest master-planned logistics park in the Southeast.

The businesses, Simpson Strong-Tie and VEYER – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Office Depot – are locating at SALP due to the site’s proximity – roughly 12 miles – to the Port of Mobile’s container terminal.

Simpson Strong-Tie is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of structural construction products, including steel connectors, fasteners, anchors and other solutions that help people build safer, stronger homes, offices, and other structures. Simpson Strong-Tie is making a total investment of $7.5 million in Mobile, creating 16 jobs.

“This new warehouse location, in combination with our manufacturing facility in McKinney, Texas and other warehouses throughout the Southeast, will provide customers with greater access to our products and solutions,” says Simpson Strong-Tie Senior Vice President and Branch Manager Nick Algya. “Our new Mobile facility supports our commitment to offering next-day service, and we are grateful to be a part of this growing community.”

VEYER, a 3PL logistics provider for fulfillment, distribution, warehousing, transportation, and final-mile delivery services to Fortune 500 and eCommerce companies, will bring 18 jobs with a total investment of $9.8 million. Additionally, VEYER will be re-routing their supply line for this new facility to the Port of Mobile, in a further sign of the growth of the Port of Mobile and Mobile’s growing importance as a southeastern logistics hub.

“VEYER is pleased to be making this investment in Mobile at the South Alabama Logistics Park,” said John Gannfors, President of VEYER. “With its fast-growing port, top-notch logistics facilities, and unbeatable connectivity, we believe that Mobile is an untapped resource for our company to grow.”

What they’re saying:

“It’s always a good day when we welcome new businesses into Mobile,” said Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson. “These are two great companies, and their investment in our area is a testament to all we have to offer. I look forward to Simpson Strong-Tie and VEYER providing great opportunities for Mobilians as they expand their businesses.”

“Today’s announcement highlights the strategic investments happening in anticipation of the Port of Mobile’s growth. VEYER and Simpson Strong-Tie’s decision to establish facilities at the South Alabama Logistics Park underscores the confidence in Mobile’s future as a leading logistics hub,” said Mobile Chamber President and CEO Bradley Byrne. “We are excited to welcome these esteemed companies to Mobile and look forward to the positive impact they will have on our community.”

“Mobile County is quickly becoming one of the country’s premier logistics and warehousing hubs. VEYER and Simpson Strong-Tie locating here is a clear sign of that growth. I am happy to welcome them to Mobile County and know they will continue to create good jobs for Mobile County residents for years to come,” said Mobile County Commission President Randall Dueitt.

“Announcements like this show the importance of the Port to our economy, both locally and statewide. Simpson Strong-Tie and VEYER are locating facilities here because of the $1B of investments in our container terminal and the incredible efficiency, connectivity and competitive costs we can offer,” said John Driscoll, the Director and CEO of the Alabama Port Authority. “With the deepening and widening of the ship channel nearing completion, we believe announcements like today’s will happen more and more often.”

“The facilities, infrastructure, and connectivity at SALP is unparalleled anywhere in the Southeast,” said Philip Burton, CEO of Burton Property Group and the developer of the South Alabama Logistics Park. “Combined with the support of our state and local officials, we are poised to continue to add new jobs and new opportunities in the Mobile market. I am thrilled to welcome VEYER and Simpson Strong-Tie to SALP and to Mobile.”

In addition to today’s announcement of Simpson Strong-Tie and VEYER, SALP is home to DC Safety, Averitt Express, and Chadwell Supply, for a total of five businesses currently operating in the park.

By the Numbers: This represents a total investment of over $100 million and roughly 200 new jobs. To date, SALP has over 500,000 square feet of facilities constructed – 100 percent of that total is being utilized by new industries to Mobile. Overall, SALP has enough capacity for an additional 10 million square feet.
