OCTOBER IS NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
Mobile, Ala. – Efforts to raise awareness of domestic violence will be made throughout the month of October. Please see the calendar of events. Also, please consider running our PSAs that have been provided to media, attending and/or promoting events, and/or having a Penelope House representative appear as a guest to discuss Domestic Violence, assistance available through Penelope House, and our DV Awareness Display.
What: “Domestic Violence Awareness Through The Years” is the theme for the 2024 Domestic Violence Awareness Display. Penelope House reached 45 years of service this year and the display reflects Domestic Violence Awareness through the years.
Where: The display will be at Government Plaza Oct. 1-11, ArtWalk Oct. 11 evening, Clarke County Court House Oct. 15-21, the West Regional Library Oct. 21-28, and the Mobile Regional Airport Oct. 28- Nov. 4; social media as well.
Why: To educate citizens that Domestic Violence affects the entire community, to help victims of Domestic Violence break their silence and seek help, and to recognize the importance of law enforcement in addressing Domestic Violence and holding abusers accountable.
About Penelope House
The mission of Penelope House is to provide safety, protection, and support to victims of domestic violence and their children through the provision of shelter, advocacy, and individual and community education. In 2023, Penelope House sheltered 239 adults and 252 children- each year over half of our clients are children.
