NMMOG Welcomes Esteemed Historian to the Team

We are thrilled to announce that John S. Sledge has officially joined the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico as our Historian-in-Residence! John brings a remarkable background and deep expertise to our team. With 38 years of service as an architectural historian for the City of Mobile’s Historic Development Department, he has been at the forefront of preserving and sharing Gulf Coast history. An accomplished author, John has written eight books, including The Mobile River, The Gulf of Mexico: A Maritime History, and Mobile and Havana: Sisters Across the Gulf. He also writes regularly for Mobile Bay Magazine. John and his wife, Lynn, call Fairhope home.

We’re excited about the fresh perspectives and storytelling John will bring to the museum. Be sure to mark your calendar for our upcoming GulfChats series starting in March, where John will kick things off with a fascinating look at Pirates of the Gulf.
