Major Milestone: Scannell Properties Project Gains Unanimous Approval
MOBILE, Ala. — The Mobile City Council today unanimously approved the infrastructure agreement for the Scannell Properties project located in the Mobile Commerce Park off Rangeline Road. This vote follows the Mobile County Commission’s unanimous approval last week.
The Scannell Project will create modern distribution warehousing operations to support logistics and light manufacturing operations.
“We thank Mayor Sandy Stimpson, the Mobile City Council and Mobile County Commission for their leadership in recognizing the significance of this project to Mobile’s future progress,” said Mobile Chamber President and CEO Bradley Byrne. “We also appreciate The Lathan Company, Inc. and Scannell Properties for their partnership and confidence in Mobile. This project is a prime example of Team Mobile’s commitment to economic growth.”
The big picture:
The Mobile Chamber economic development team expects more than 1,000 new high-paying jobs and $600 million in capital expenditure associated with the site at full buildout. The property allows for 5-million square feet of industrial space.
What makes this site different:
This is one of only a handful of Class A industrial sites served by a CSX rail line.
What’s next:
Scannell Properties plans to break ground in mid-2024. A full buildout could take 5 to 10 years.
“We’re here long term to be collaborative with the City of Mobile,” said David Salinas with Scannell Properties. “Scannell is excited about the investment we’re making in Mobile as it continues to expand.”
“These two votes are a huge win for Mobile,” said Mobile Chamber Vice President of Economic Development David Rodgers. “This industrial site diversifies our portfolio for economic development while making Mobile more competitive when recruiting new businesses and expansion opportunities associated with growth at the port.”
