Infirmary Health and UnitedHealthcare reach agreement in contract negotiations
Mobile, Ala. – Infirmary Health and UnitedHealthcare (UHC) have reached a new, long-term commercial insurance hospital-services contract effective immediately. All UHC patients will resume in-network coverage at Infirmary Health hospitals, and any care administered during the period of contract suspension, which began on June 4, 2024, will retroactively be covered as in-network as well.
Infirmary Health will communicate with affected patients as quickly as possible to ensure they are aware of the new agreement with UHC. Additionally, care for those patients at Infirmary Health hospitals and hospital-owned facilities is no longer impacted.
“Infirmary Health’s new agreement with UHC will benefit our patients across the region as well as our physicians and other providers,” said Mark Nix, president and CEO of Infirmary Health. “As a result of these negotiations, we will be able to continue to provide the care our patients need at the level they expect while remaining in network.”
As the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Alabama, with a 54% overall market share in Southwest Alabama, Infirmary Health is committed to putting its patients and local communities first. In addition to its hospitals, freestanding emergency departments, and imaging centers, Infirmary Health operates more than 60 physician practices across Mobile and Baldwin Counties, maintains the Infirmary Physician Alliance comprising over 530 physicians, and cares for more than 1.54 million patient visits annually. Infirmary Health’s goal is to provide the highest quality care to those who live across the Gulf Coast region.
