HISTORY MUSEUM OF MOBILE WELCOMES NEW DIRECTOR
MOBILE, Ala. – The Board of Directors of the History Museum of Mobile is pleased to announce the appointment of the museum’s new director, Jon Sexton.
“After a rigorous search process, the Board is thrilled to welcome Jon to the History Museum of Mobile as director,” said Greg Reynolds, chair of the board. “We are confident he is the right person to lead the museum into its next exciting chapter.”
Jon comes to the History Museum of Mobile from the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw, Georgia, where he served as director of operations. He previously served as the assistant manager of historical resources for Sarasota County, Florida.
A native of Arkansas, he holds a B.A. in history from the University of Arkansas. From Royal Holloway, University of London, he earned an M.A. in history with a specialization in public history.
“My goal is to offer a wide variety of programming and rich interpretive experiences for both our local community and visitors to the Mobile area, thereby instilling a sense of wonder, thirst for learning, and excitement for all,” said Sexton.
Former director Meg McCrummen Fowler resigned in August 2023, when her family relocated out of state.
Jon will begin work at the museum later this month.
