Mobile, Ala. — The City of Mobile held a groundbreaking ceremony for the next phase of the Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail and upcoming improvements to the Mobile Japanese Garden.

This $1.7 million investment will add a ¾ mile segment to the Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail.

As part of a complementary project happening at the same time, the city will also be rebuilding the parking lot at Mobile Japanese Garden. Together, these projects will make needed accessibility improvements to the parking facilities and the trailhead at the Mobile Japanese Garden.
This latest segment of the Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail will build out the most westward point on the trail. It is being funded through a grant from the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). The improvements to the parking facilities at Mobile Japanese Garden are being funded through the City of Mobile’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) with support from City Council Vice President Gina Gregory.

Construction will begin later this month and is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2025.
To accommodate these projects, the Mobile Japanese Garden will be closed to the public beginning December 30 and remain closed for approximately six months. Staff will have continued access, with some parking adjustments. Construction will proceed with minimal disruption to surrounding areas.
