The Mobile Chamber also introduced the Inaugural Freida G. Maisel Businesswoman of the Year Award, a new annual accolade honoring women who exhibit exemplary leadership and community impact. Named in honor of Freida Maisel, a pioneering businesswoman who revolutionized the beverage industry and shattered barriers with grace and determination, this award celebrates the legacy of female leadership and entrepreneurship.

In 1973, Freida bought a small beverage wholesaler in Mobile, renamed it Gulf Distributing Company, and built the foundation of a business that now serves customers in six states and employs nearly 2,000 people.

In a poignant tribute, the inaugural Freida G. Maisel Businesswoman of the Year Award was posthumously presented to its namesake, Freida Maisel, with her son, Elliot Maisel, accepting the honor on her behalf.
