ALABAMA GIRL SCOUTS ANNOUNCE NEW WAYS TO JOIN

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama (GSNCA) and Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama (GSSA) are excited to announce NEW avenues for girls in Alabama to become Girl Scouts! All-new Girl Scout Experience Passes allow families to “build their own adventure” by selecting from a variety of Girl Scout experiences across the state. Girl Scout Squads, led by Girl Scout staff or community partners, provide girls regular opportunities to take a deep dive into their special interests with other girls who love the same things. These new ways to participate are in addition to the traditional Girl Scout Troop experience where girls earn badges, plan trips, and build life-long friends.

Families who purchase a Girl Scout Experience Pass will unlock events throughout the year that fit their girls’ interests and schedule. Girls can participate in events across Alabama with her troop or family – she can even attend solo to share adventures with new friends. Each Girl Scout program is led by trained staff or community partners who care as much as caregivers do about creating an experience that is safe, super fun, and takes girls’ curiosity to the next level.

Girl Scout Squads will be led by passionate adults who support girls following their passions. With the freedom and flexibility to focus on special interests, Girl Scout Squads give girls year-round opportunities to make new friends, have fun, and explore the subjects that are most important to them!

GSNCA Girl Scout Squad options include: The Innovator Squad – Adventures in STEM, where girls will conduct wacky science experiments and explore topics like geology, archaeology, chemistry, and robotics; The Creator Squad – Adventures in the Arts, where girls gain hands-on experience with different art mediums, create their own comic strip, learn about content creation, and more: The Horse Squad – Adventures in Equestrianism, which helps girls learn all about horses – from horse care to horseback riding – no prior experience necessary! GSSA will be announcing additional Girl Scout Squads this Fall!

Girl Scout Troops are the most longstanding, well-recognized way to join. Girl Scouting has been building girls of courage, confidence, and character through the traditional Girl Scout Troop experience since 1912. Troops are supported by devoted volunteers who lead girls to achieve their full potential. With the confidence to create their own adventure, Girl Scout Troops plan activities together, participate in GSNCA and GSSA events, and choose from over 300 badges to create a year of friendship, learning, and happy memories.

GSNCA and GSSA are thrilled to provide multiple pathways to the Girl Scout experience. The collaboration of these two Girl Scout councils will support a shared effort to bring Girl Scouting to more girls and young women across Alabama. GSNCA Chief Executive Officer Karen Peterlin comments, “The two councils in Alabama joining together to develop a positive, consistent Girl Scout experience will enhance our girl and adult membership recruitment.” Emphasizing the unique value of Girl Scouting to girls today, Karlyn Edmonds, Chief Executive Officer of GSSA, added, “Girl Scouts taps into the power of every girl and challenges them to grow and achieve more. In the supportive, all-girl environment that Girl Scouting provides, girls try new things, learn through experience, and take healthy, courageous risks.”
