Senior Bowl Names Coach Terry Curtis Executive Director of Mobile Baldwin Athletic Partnership
MOBILE, Ala. – The Senior Bowl has named longtime high school football coach Terry Curtis as executive director of the Mobile Baldwin Athletic Partnership (MBAP), further strengthening the Senior Bowl’s commitment to supporting and developing athletics across Mobile and Baldwin counties. Among the most successful high school football coaches in Alabama history, Curtis has earned numerous honors, including National High School Coach of the Year recognition from the National High School Athletic Coaches Association in 2023.
Coach Curtis has spent more than five decades coaching high school football, including 35 years as a head coach. During his tenure at UMS-Wright Preparatory School, he compiled a record of 278–62 with eight state championships. Across his career, he has also coached at B.C. Rain, Murphy, and Shaw high schools and has served as athletic director.
The MBAP is a nonprofit organization under the Senior Bowl Charities arm that provides needed resources for underfunded public schools in the two-county area. Working closely with local coaches, the organization identifies specific equipment needs while also creating character and leadership development opportunities for student-athletes selected by their head coaches.
In his new role, Coach Curtis will expand the impact of the MBAP by mentoring student-athletes and strengthening connections between local athletics and the Senior Bowl. Widely regarded as one of the most respected and accomplished high school football coaches in Alabama history, Curtis’ leadership, commitment to student-athletes, and deep ties to the local community make him uniquely qualified to help guide and grow the organization.
“The Mobile Baldwin Athletic Partnership represents far more than financial support for local football programs,” said Mobile Arts & Sports Association Chairman Scott Cooper. “It is an investment in the future leaders of our community. There is no one more qualified to lead this mission than Coach Terry Curtis. His impact on high school football is unmatched, but even more impressive is the influence he has had on generations of young people throughout our area.”
“I have attended the Senior Bowl for as long as I can remember. Some of my earliest memories are of coming to the game with my family, no matter what the weather was like or what we had going on,” said Coach Terry Curtis. “Coaching and mentoring young people has been my life’s work for more than 50 years, and I still have the same passion for it today. Being able to continue serving student-athletes and coaches in our community through the Senior Bowl makes this a full-circle moment for me, and I am eager to get started.”
