Mobile Arts Council Announces Dual Watercolor Exhibitions Opening October 10
Mobile, AL — The Mobile Arts Council is proud to present two distinguished exhibitions this October, showcasing the Watercolor Society of Alabama and the Watercolor & Graphic Arts Society of Mobile. Opening receptions will be held during LoDa ArtWalk on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 6–9 p.m. at the Mobile Arts Council Gallery @ Room 1927.
Together, these exhibitions offer a vibrant tribute to watercolor and design, uniting two of Alabama’s oldest and most respected arts organizations.
Watercolor & Graphic Arts Society of Mobile
Founded in 1948 as the Watercolor Society of Mobile, this organization grew from the celebrated Bayou Painters group and is among the oldest arts organizations in Alabama. Its founding members included influential artists such as Genevieve Southerland, Edmond deCelle, William Bush, and Bea Q. Tucker. The Society expanded to include graphic arts in 1954, and today its membership nears one hundred.
As a nonprofit, its mission is to foster appreciation for watercolor and graphic arts through education and to promote high-quality exhibitions of Alabama artists. The Society continues its tradition of holding at least two exhibitions annually.
Watercolor Society of Alabama
Established in 1939, the Watercolor Society of Alabama (WSA) has been a driving force in advancing the art of watercolor statewide and nationally. The Society hosts multiple juried competitions each year, including the Annual National Exhibition, the Alabama Members Showcase, and an Online Showcase.
Through workshops led by nationally and internationally recognized instructors, quarterly newsletters, and traveling exhibitions, WSA continues to inspire, educate, and connect artists and audiences. The organization remains a vibrant contributor to Alabama’s cultural landscape.
Join us in celebrating the legacy and future of watercolor artistry with these two remarkable organizations.
