Candlelight Ceremony to be held in honor of POW/MIA Recognition Day
MOBILE, ALABAMA, Friday, September 19, 2025 – 7:00 p.m. — USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park will host a POW/MIA Candlelight Ceremony on the evening of Friday, September 19, in honor of National POW/MIA Recognition Day. The ceremony will take place at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the park’s grounds at 7:00 p.m. and will be conducted by the South Alabama Veterans Council.
The evening will include the lowering of the American and POW/MIA flag by Boy Scouts Troop 87,
assisted by the P. L. Wilson Detachment MCL, and the POW/MIA Table Ceremony presented by Boy Scouts Troop 87, followed by the lighting of individual candles. The guest speaker will be Frank Ready, a
USA Vietnam Veteran. The ceremony will honor those service members who were held captive and have returned, as well as those who are still listed as missing in action. Information about the POW/MIAs from the State of Alabama will be shared with all attendees, along with details on National POW/MIA Recognition Day. The ceremony will end with a special song performed by Country Music Artist Zachary Thomas Diedrich.
