Southern Cancer Center Welcomes Dr. Jeff Caughran, Medical Oncologist
Southern Cancer Center is pleased to announce Dr. Jeff Caughran has joined our practice. Dr. Caughran is a board-certified medical oncologist with a strong background in internal medicine and oncology. He brings a compassionate, patient-centered approach to cancer care, along with a commitment to clinical excellence and innovation.
With experience in both hospitalist and outpatient oncology settings, Dr. Caughran has served in roles ranging from hospitalist at CHI Memorial in Chattanooga to Radiation Clinic Supervisor at the Cancer Care Center in Dyersburg, TN. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.
Dr. Caughran earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, following undergraduate studies at Furman University. He completed his residency and served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, where he also completed his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the West Cancer Center.
“My parents were both radiologists, so I grew up in and around the field of medicine. I explored other paths but kept getting pulled back to it,” said Dr. Caughran. “The field of oncology has really exploded in the last few years and there’s always something exciting to learn. Newer, better treatments that were dreams a few years ago are now reality. The fact that we are using medicines to train our own immune system to fight certain types of cancer is absolutely amazing.”
Beginning in August, Dr. Caughran will see patients at SCC’s clinic in Suite 102 located on the campus of Springhill Medical Center. He treats all types of cancer, but has a particular interest in lung, breast, colon, and melanoma.
When asked why he chose to join our practice, Dr. Caughran’s answer was simple. “Two words — the people. The physicians here at SCC made me feel at home. It felt like I was joining a family of great cancer doctors, rather than just another medical group.”
Dr. Caughran’s philosophy of care is rooted in empathy and partnership. “When we see patients as oncologists, we’re often meeting them on what feels like the worst day of their lives,” he explained. “Our job is not only to make the best medical decisions, but to walk down this road with them as a partner in their care.”
Now calling the Gulf Coast home, Dr. Caughran and his wife look forward to building lasting relationships with the community. They share a love for rescuing dogs, and in their free time enjoy cooking and exploring coastal life.
