MCPSS Improves State Report Card to B
MOBILE, Ala. – Mobile County Public Schools improved its state report card grade to a B, with a remarkable 59 schools increasing its student achievement scores. Forty-three Mobile County schools received an A or a B, which is more than any other school district in Alabama.
“As Superintendent, I am extremely proud of the hard work of every member of #TeamMCPSS,” said MCPSS Superintendent Chresal D. Threadgill. “Our teachers, our students, our school principals, and our district staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that students throughout Mobile County Public Schools are #GrowingGreatness.
“When I arrived, we set a goal to raise our report card score to a B. We accomplished that goal in 2019, but then we experienced the many challenges of the pandemic. Overcoming those challenges makes our current B designation even more meaningful,” he said. “However, we are not stopping here. We will continue to raise the bar and strive for greatness. As #TeamMCPSS, we will continue working together and remain committed to see even greater increases in the future.”
Only 11 schools statewide earned a perfect score of 100, and three of those are in Mobile County – Council Traditional, Eichold-Mertz School of Math and Science, and Old Shell Road School of Creative and Performing Arts. Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies scored a 99, making it the highest-performing middle school in Alabama.
Besides increasing standardized reading and math scores, MCPSS reached a goal of significantly decreasing its student absenteeism rate.
