Mobile County Commissioners Take Office
MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. – The newly re-elected Mobile County Commissioners, Merceria Ludgood (District 1), Connie Hudson (District 2), and Randall Dueitt (District 3) were officially sworn into new terms of office on Nov. 13, 2024.
Each Commissioner will continue to represent about 139,000 Mobile County residents in one of three districts for the next four years.
Commissioner Ludgood, who has represented District 1 since 2007, was sworn in by Circuit Court Judge Vicki Davis.
Commissioner Hudson, who has represented District 2 since 2010, was sworn in by Municipal Court Judge Shelbonnie Hall.
Commissioner Randall Dueitt, who has represented District 3 since 2020, was sworn in by Circuit Court Judge Ben Brooks.
At its organizational meeting after their swearing-in, the Commission determined that each would hold the roles of president and vice-president for one-third (16 months) of the four-year term of office, as follows:
President:
- Commissioner Ludgood – Nov. 13, 2024 until 11:59 p.m. on March 22, 2026
- Commissioner Hudson – March 23, 2026 until 11:59 p.m. on July 11, 2027
- Commissioner Dueitt – July 11, 2027, until the election of a new president on Nov. 15, 2028
Vice President:
- Commissioner Hudson – Nov. 13, 2024 until 11:59 p.m. on March 22, 2026
- Commissioner Dueitt – March 23, 2026 until 11:59 p.m. on July 11, 2027
- Commissioner Ludgood – July 11, 2027, until the election of a new president on Nov. 15, 2028
The president of the Mobile County Commission chairs the Commission meetings, signs documents on behalf of the Commission, serves on various boards, and serves as Mobile County’s chief elected official during a declared emergency or disaster. The vice-president of the Mobile County Commission chairs meetings and acts for the Commission President in his/her absence.
Also at the organizational meeting, the Commission approved its pre-meeting conference and meeting schedule for the new quadrennial and conducted some regular business of the Commission.
