MOBILE, AL – Goodwill Gulf Coast is excited to announce the debut of the 2024 “Christmas on the Coast” ornaments for Mobile and Pensacola. These limited edition, gold-plated ornaments have become collector’s items for many Gulf Coast residents over the past three decades. The ornaments will go on sale beginning Friday, November 1 at area Goodwill stores, participating vendors, and online.

Revenue generated from the sale of “Christmas on the Coast” ornaments allows Goodwill Gulf Coast to provide services in our communities that educate and employ thousands of individuals with disabilities and other barriers to success each year. Programs include job training and placement services, as well as support programs for children, youth, and parents.

This year’s Mobile ornament recognizes the legend of the Crichton Leprechaun, which was reported to have been spotted sitting in a tree in Crichton, a Mobile neighborhood, on March 14, 2006. An eyewitness drew an amateur sketch of what they believed the leprechaun looked like. A local news station reported the story, which was posted to YouTube on St. Patrick’s Day, where it became one of the first viral videos on YouTube. As of 2024, the original news clip has had over 6.5 million views – and the leprechaun story and drawing have been referenced in many national media outlets.

This year’s Pensacola ornament pays tribute to Palafox Pier in downtown Pensacola, which is home to a private marina that locals and tourists frequent to experience the waterfront and nearby Plaza de Luna, a city park overlooking Pensacola Bay that features a statue of the city’s founder, Tristán de Luna y Arellano, a Spanish explorer whose 1559 expedition near Pensacola established America’s first European settlement. The park includes a fountain courtyard, an 1,800-foot promenade for strolling and fishing, an amphitheater for performances, and a terrace for sunset viewing of Pensacola Bay.

Beginning Friday, November 1, ornaments will be available for sale at Goodwill Gulf Coast retail stores and select Gulf Coast vendors in the Mobile and Pensacola areas, or online on the Goodwill Gulf Coast website (www.goodwillgulfcoast.org). The price is $20.00 per ornament, with all proceeds going to Goodwill Gulf Coast. In addition to the 2024 ornaments, a limited supply of ornaments from previous years also is available for purchase on the website.

Pensacola-area vendors this year are: Beré Jewelers; Renfroe Pecan Company; and Member’s First Credit Union; and the Goodwill stores in Pensacola, Pace, and Fort Walton Beach.
