MOBILE, Ala. – The Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) celebrated a key milestone today in the construction of the new Mobile International Airport (BFM) terminal with a beam signing ceremony. By placing the final steel beam, MAA is taking a significant step foward in transforming air travel in the region.

Elliot Maisel, Chairman of the Mobile Airport Authority, emphasized the significance of the terminal development.

“The Mobile International Airport terminal is more than just a building—it’s a symbol of growth and opportunity for the city of Mobile and the Gulf Coast. Today’s beam signing celebrates not only the work completed so far but also the promise of what’s to come. We’re building a gateway that will connect our city to the world, and we’re proud of the progress we’ve made,” Maisel said.

The new terminal will open with five gates, with the ability to expand to 12 as demand grows. It will offer travelers a modern, convenient, and efficient airport experience. The state-of-the-art facility, located just minutes from downtown Mobile, is poised to become a key gateway to the Gulf Coast region.

Chris Curry, President of the Mobile Airport Authority, shared his thoughts on the project’s future impact.

“This beam signing brings us closer to realizing our vision of creating a world-class airport here in Mobile. The new terminal will enchance accessibility for Mobile and Baldwin Counties, improve convenience for travelers, and drive economic growth for our entire region. We’re excited to share this milestone with the community and continue the progress,” said Curry.

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson also praised the project’s progress:

“After years of planning and collaboration, it is exciting to see this critical project continue to surpass major milestones. Installing the final beam at the new terminal means the Mobile International Airport is one step closer to significantly expanding passenger air services just minutes from Downtown Mobile. Having an international airport that can draw more passengers and offer greater flight options at lower fares will benefit travelers, community members, and Mobile’s economy. I want to congratulate the leadership at the Mobile Airport Authority on their continued progress,” said Mayor Stimpson. 1891 Ninth Street, Mobile, AL 36615 P 251.438.7334 F 251.694.7667 mobileairportauthority.com

Local dignitaries, project stakeholders, and members of the media attended the ceremony, celebrating the milestone. Attendees signed the final steel beam before it was ceremoniously raised into place, signifying the completion of the terminal’s steel framework.

MAA expects to complete the new terminal by November 2025, at which point all commercial air service will transition from Mobile Regional Airport. Additional updates, including photos and video, are available at www.BuildBFM.com.
