MCPSS SCHOOLS TOP U.S. NEWS RANKINGS

MOBILE, Ala. – Davidson High School is Southwest Alabama’s top-ranked high school, and Eichold-Mertz School of Math and Science is the #2 elementary school in the entire state of Alabama. That’s according to U.S. News and World Report’s ratings of elementary, middle and high schools across the country. Davidson High School offers the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, numerous Advanced Placement and dual enrollment courses, as well as the successful EPIC engineering program. Eichold-Mertz is a high-performing magnet school serving students in pre-k through fifth-grade in Mobile County. These MCPSS schools are among several points of pride for Alabama’s Gulf Coast, including also Phillips Preparatory School, which is the #7 middle school in the state of Alabama. In addition, the report showed:

  • MCPSS has three of the top seven elementary schools in Southwest Alabama. The other two are Council Traditional and Old Shell Road School of Creative and Performing Arts.
  • MCPSS has three of the top nine middle schools in Southwest Alabama. The other two are Clark-Shaw School of Math and Science and Denton Magnet School of Technology.

U.S. News & World Report ranks schools in this report based on test scores in reading and math proficiency, as well as graduation rates and college preparedness for high schools.
