MCPSS encourages parents to attend Parent University

MOBILE, Alabama — Mobile County Public Schools invites parents to attend our free Parent University next week. The seminar focuses on student success and will feature tools and tips on how to help your child have a successful 2024-25 school year.

Parent University will be held at the Battlehouse Hotel in downtown Mobile as follows:

  • Monday, 8-11 a.m. for parents of students in kindergarten through second grade
  • Monday, 1-4 p.m. for parents of students in grades three through five
  • Tuesday, 8-11 a.m. for parents of middle schoolers
  • Tuesday, 1-4 p.m. for parents of high schoolers
  • Tuesday, 1-4 p.m. for parents of students at Pathway 6-8 and Strickland Youth Center

“When schools and parents work together, students are better able to improve academically, to improve their behavior, and have a greater desire to pursue college and careers after graduation,” said Karen Howard Dawson, who serves as Home, School, Community Partnership Manager for Mobile County Public Schools.

She said she is proud that MCPSS is offering Parent University, and she encourages parents to attend.

“It is our hope to give parents an opportunity to meet with district leaders and teachers to gain knowledge about student academics, the importance of school attendance, and the community resources that are available to our families,” she said. “Parent University is an effort to keep our parents informed and to build better relationships for the success of their students.”

Free parking will be provided. Participating parents will receive a backpack full of resources, and will be able to attend a free, on-site community resource fair.

The event is for parents and guardians of registered MCPSS students. You must register at: bit.ly/3JLHis9
