Jeff Turner Named Firefighter of the Month for January
MOBILE, Ala. – The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department proudly recognizes Fire Service Driver Jeff Turner as the Firefighter of the Month for January 2024. Turner joined the department in 1990 and was promoted to Fire Service Driver in 2008. He currently serves as C Shift Driver for Truck 10 at Seelhorst Station. He has worked tirelessly running the department’s Honor Guard.
In his role as Honor Guard coordinator, Turner has taken the lead in making sure the all-volunteer group is trained and has the proper uniforms and equipment needed. He began serving with the Honor Guard in 1995 as one of the original founding members and has served as the group’s coordinator since 2020.
The Honor Guard has stood silent vigil at dozens of funerals of retirees, even many years after their retirement when the fire department is somewhat of a distant memory in the families’ lives.
“The payback for us is to see the emotion involved with the family that’s there, to see that we’ve provided that emotional respect for their loved one,” he said.
Turner has been awarded a Life Saving Award, Meritorious Operations Awards and other Service Recognition Awards along with other accolades during his 33+ years with the department.
