WKRG News 5 Names Shamonee Baker as Morning News Anchor
MOBILE, Alabama- Shamonee Baker has been named an Anchor of WKRG News 5 This Morning. The announcement was made today by Jesse Grear, WKRG Vice President and General Manager.
“Shamonee has come a long way in a short period of time and has earned this promotion,” Grear said. “She’s a pleasure to be around and our viewers love her. We couldn’t ask for a better person to join the morning team.”
“Shamonee is a tenacious journalist, a wonderful teammate, and just plain fun to be around,” said News Director Gene Kirkconnell. “Viewers are going to have a blast spending time with her and the rest of our morning team every day.”
Baker is from Fort Walton Beach, Florida. She graduated from Florida A&M University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism.
She came to WKRG News 5 in June 2022. She had been working as a reporter and Weekend Evening Anchor prior to this promotion.
“This is a dream come true for me. I started my career as a morning reporter and now I’m joining the WKRG News 5 Morning Team again, but this time as an anchor. It’s a full-circle, surreal moment and I thank God for the opportunity,” said Baker. “Jessica Taloney has set the bar high, and she’s also paved the way for young journalists like me to thrive and live in our purpose. I hope to make her proud and I wish her the very best on her next adventure with her lovely family. I’m looking forward to helping folks wake up on the Gulf Coast with Bill, John, Akievia and Caroline. They are such a great group of people to work with and it’s a privilege to sit alongside them on the Red Couch.”
Baker will be working on-air alongside Anchor Bill Riales, Meteorologists John Nodar and Caroline Carithers, and Traffic Anchor Akievia McFarland on WKRG News 5 This Morning from 4am-7am every weekday.
