Women-led Movement Marks 242nd Home for Organization
Mobile, AL, September 22, 2026 — Women from across the area and all walks of life are coming together for the shared purpose of building a home for a deserving local family. Women Build 2026 launches next month for teams, sponsors and individuals who want to be a part of constructing the 242nd Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Alabama (HFHSWA) house.
“Over the past 38 years, it has been our honor to help improve the lives of so many families in our community by providing them with decent, affordable housing,” says Courtney Rouse-Heinz, HFHSWA executive director. “It has been a few years since our last Women Build, so we are excited to come together and change lives, one house at a time.”
Teams have already started organizing, and Habitat expects to break ground on the build next spring. At a launch event on October 29 at Habitat’s offices, 3712 Airport Boulevard, women can learn more about how to participate. They can organize teams, join other teams, become sponsors or volunteer in numerous ways to help make another woman’s dream of homeownership come true.
Resources are also available to guide them through fundraising, earning incentives and just rolling up their sleeves. The team that raises the most funds will present keys to the new home at the Women Build dedication.
“Don’t worry about not having any construction experience,” adds Rouse-Heinz. “Our expert staff is on hand at all times to provide instructions and any tools you might need.”
The community-wide Women Build movement encourages women to come together, have fun and make a difference by raising funds and swinging hammers to build homes. It emphasizes women working together for a shared mission and positive impact. Men are welcome to join alongside as teammates, supporters, sponsors and volunteers. But remember—women are in charge!
