Red Clay Strays hometown concert to take place weeks ahead of contractual completion

Mobile, Ala. — The City of Mobile is celebrating the exceptional progress of the team building Regions Arena, whose work has kept one of the city’s largest capital projects on schedule and under budget while positioning the new venue for an early activation ahead of its mid-spring contractual completion.

The progress will allow Mobile’s own The Red Clay Strays to perform at Regions Arena on March 26, 2027, creating a major hometown moment as the city begins introducing its new world-class entertainment venue to the community.

Construction on Regions Arena began in May 2025 with an ambitious schedule which targeted completion in January 2027 and use during Mobile’s Mardi Gras season. Since then, the project has experienced significant weather impacts, including two named storms, which extended the construction schedule under the terms of the contract.

Throughout the project, BL Harbert International, its subcontractors and the broader team have maintained an efficient construction operation, keeping the project on schedule and under budget while continuing to push toward the earliest possible activation of the facility.

“There could not be a more fitting way to introduce this arena to Mobile than with a homegrown band taking the stage,” Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said. “The Red Clay Strays have taken Mobile with them to stages around the world, and now we get to welcome them home to one of the most transformational investments our city has ever made.”

“What BL Harbert, their subcontractors and this entire project team have accomplished deserves to be celebrated,” Mayor Cheriogotis said. “This has been an extraordinarily complex project and they have kept it on schedule and under budget from the beginning. Even after weather conditions extended the contractual timeline into mid-spring, they have continued working around the clock to make an event of this magnitude possible several weeks earlier. The March 26 date is a reflection of the commitment, professionalism and outstanding work happening on the site every day.”

Last week, the city announced that Regions Arena would not host Mardi Gras balls in 2027. While the project team had worked toward making limited use of the facility available during the Carnival season, city officials determined that doing so would not provide the experience envisioned for organizations and guests, and could interfere with the most efficient path to completing the facility.

The March 26 concert provides additional time for construction to advance while allowing the city to begin activating the arena ahead of the contractual completion date.

Regions Arena is a 10,000-seat sports and entertainment venue being constructed on the former Mobile Civic Center site. The facility has been designed for major touring acts, concerts, sporting events, family shows, Mardi Gras balls and other community events.
